How We Provide Value For Your Business
And how is the business going to show up in Google!?
My customer asked me this question in the midst of our conversation as we worked through the process of getting his new website stood up. I thought for a moment this was a learning opportunity for me—perhaps I hadn't explained what I do well enough. For me to be paid, I need to provide value to our customers and back it up with measurable results in order to achieve what many consider success.
Being a web developer for nearly eight years now, I've certainly seen my fair share of slow, fast, beautiful, and bland website designs. I've worked for companies that build internal tooling with no other requirement than data submissions and reads. I've also worked for e-commerce companies that place a high value on friction reduction and guiding customers down the "funnel," as they say.
Now that I've embarked on my own venture, I want to culminate all that I've learned and built over the years and apply those lessons to my own creations for small business customers. As a small business owner myself, I understand how easy it is to spread yourself thin when financial constraints force your hand.
Getting back to the primary topic, I've found a lot of passion in great UX design combined with a website that performs well from a PageSpeed perspective. Showing up at the top of Google results is a culmination of not only speed but many other factors that seem to be constantly changing. I appreciate the infographic below from Website Magazine that illustrates these factors at a high level in a visually appealing way.
There are aspects of web design that are within my control and others that are not. At LOGOS Web Designs, we primarily focus on the light blue-colored tile—Site Speed. As mentioned, I've developed web applications in my professional career for many years, and building a strong foundation for customer websites is what I specialize in.
Additionally, we build websites with strong On-Page SEO. This term describes the words, titles, and content added to the website that target specific keywords relevant to the customer. For instance, if a painter wants us to build a website for him, we evaluate which keyword (in this case, "painter") has low competition but high search volume. There are many other factors to consider, such as trending search velocity, but at a basic level, it’s simply about what people are searching for.
There are a myriad of other small processes and factors that go into building these websites for our customers, but the primary objectives of speed and on-page SEO are significant items that are well within our control. We aim to achieve 100% across the board on Google's PageSpeed Insights measurements. As mentioned, measurable results are what we can use to quantify our value add and arrive at what we like to consider a successful mission and a happy customer.
